The area used for sparring or competition bouts is called an "arena".
Arenas can be of any size or shape as long as they meet the following requirements:
1. It must be an area free of obstacles and debris. the fighters should be able to concentrate on the fight and not think about dodging things under foot.
2. A space directly around the arena must be reserved for officials. This area must form a full perimeter of the arena and allow the officials unobstructed views of the action and the ability to move 360 degrees around the fighters.
3. If there are spectators present, they must be able to be a safe distance away and protected from equipment failures, weapon drops, and ring outs.
