Scoring points will be determined by what type of strike to what target zone is being applied. Each type of strike is worth a different number of points. In addition, each type has a “Marks of Contact” bonus points for clean hits to certain specific areas of the body. MoC Bonus points are added to the base value of the techniques applied.
Target zones: all correspond to the Attack zones of Shii-Cho.
Z2: weapon arm
Z3: Non-weapon arm
Z4: Body and neck
Z5: weapon leg
Z6: non-weapon leg
Strikes and points:
Sai-3 points: Sai strikes can only be delivered to Z1 and Z4. They consist of a full swing followed by a slide across the target,follow through, or contact for long enough to be seen. The slide must slide at least the entire length of the quick or front half of the blade. Basic Sai strikes are downwards cuts to the shoulders, neck and head.
Horizontal to the head and neck= sai cha (+1)
Horizontal to body under arms = sai tok (+1)
Cho-2 points: Cho are single clean hits to the various target zones. Cho must connect with the strong or back half of the blade. The hit must be clean and not in contact with the opponent’s weapon.
If to the weapon arm:
Hand: Cho mai (+1)
Wrist: Cho mok (+2)
Upper Arm: Cho sun (+2)
Weapon: Sun djem (+2)
Legs: Mou kei (+3)
Shiim-1 point: Taps to the various target zones with the tip or foible of the blade.
Shiak: stab to zone 4 (+3)
Sun djem (shiim): 2 points.
